About Us/Contact Us:
My name is Cherie Ehlert. I am the mother of (almost) 7 year old Charlie-Anne. Charlie was born with the life limiting illness SMA type 1. Our family has spent 6-8 weeks a year in ICU since Charlie was diagnosed at 6 months of age. In this time I believe I have become somewhat of an expert on what a caretaker needs to survive those stressful days in the hospital. We are fortunate enough to live close to BC Childrens Hospital but when it comes to taking care of ourselves during these stressful stays we often fall short, so stressed and pressed for time in emergency situations we often forget even our toothbrushes. Friends and family have told us they feel helpless and don't know what to do or how to help in these times, and we're not always comfortable asking for what we need. Laying on my hospital cot next to Charlie one night...exhausted and unable to sleep with the florescent lights leaking into the room and anxious listening to her machines alarming off and beeping, the idea for Charlie's Hospitables was born. I thought, "I am going to start a small business aimed at making these difficult times a little easier on people." As a caretaker of a loved one in hospital you put yourself second and forget that by taking care of yourself you'll have so much more to give them. There have been many days that I didn't wash my face or brush my hair, I slept in my contacts, and I hadn't had more than a coffee and a sugary muffin to eat and it was already 6 o'clock at night.
Flowers are a beautiful gift and let your loved ones know you're thinking about them, but most hospitals don't allow them anymore due to allergies, and they don't alleviate the many needs a patient or caregiver has while in hospital. My kits are full of yummy, delicious and nutritious snacks and essentials that make a world of difference for a stressed out caregiver (or a patient or friend who needs a pick me up!). I think about the families who are from out of town and don't know the city well and can't or don't want to leave their loved ones side, or the families staying at Ronald Mcdonald House...these kits would be ideal for them. Charlie's Hospitables Survival Kits don't just show that you are thinking about them, but they are practical and they spoil a little..why not?!
My kits include local and Canadian products. We are currently available for purchase and delivery in the Greater Vancouver BC area. Orders, questions or comments please email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call/text 604-734-4694.
